Frank DeSimone (1909-1967)
Frank DeSimone came from a mob legacy where his dad, Rosario DeSimone, was the boss of the Los Angeles mob before him. Frank DeSimone was a lawyer from 1933 to 1957 when Jack Dragna who was then the boss of the family died from a sudden heart attack. After Dragna’s death, DeSimone took over the family in 1957. One of his first acts as boss was to go the Apalachin meeting where he was arrested when the police broke up the meeting. This was one of many negative events that DeSimone was involved in that subsequently got his family named “The Mickey Mouse Mafia” by the other families because of their inability to do much right and how they were viewed as the childish version of the mafia. DeSimone was however featured in Look magazine in 1965 as a notable figure in American mafia during the decade. DeSimone died of a heart attack in 1967 and left the family to Nick Licata who would do even a worse job with the family than DeSimone.
